The tip is stored inside the body until needed, then the reversible section is pulled out of the end and re-inserted in the center section ready to use. The ripper comes with 1 seam ripper tip. We do not use the seam rippers that use rubber o-rings, ours has a spring steel insert to securely hold the tool in place.
